Section Coaches and Switching Instruments

Dear HHS Parents and Students, I’m happy to announce that beginning the week of September 23, most Hockinson Band students will begin receiving coaching on a weekly basis from a professional musician who specializes in their instrument.  Most sections will receive coaching during their normal band class.  These coaching sessions are invaluable opportunities for our students to gain knowledge from a specialist on their instrument and only happen thanks to the generous financial support of the Hockinson High School Music Booster Club. Audition for an Honor Band

Dear Students,   It’s that time of year where we start thinking about auditions for county, state, and regional honor bands.  We have a lot of students who are very enthusiastic toward honor bands, but many students either don’t know about honor band opportunities or are apprehensive about preparing for an audition.  While honor band auditions are certainly optional (not graded), everyone in band should consider challenging themselves to complete an audition.  You can also earn a Varsity Band letter by being accepted into an honor band (see the band handbook for details).  I STRONGLY urge Wind Ensemble members (and percussionists who play with Wind Ensemble) and upperclassmen to prepare and submit at least one audition.   Honor bands are a fantastic way to challenge your own abilities, meet music students from outside of Hockinson, get introduced to world-renowned composers/conductors/professors, add items of distinction to job and college applications, earn… Read More »Audition for an Honor Band

Band First Day/Week of School Reminders

Dear HHS Band Students and Parents, I hope you’re all rested up and recovered from Band Camp and ready to start the 2024-2025 school year tomorrow!  Here are a couple of brief announcements to get the year going. Red Carpet Welcome Tomorrow – This is a fun tradition HHS started a few years ago.  On the first day of school, students entering the building would be greeted by the band/cheerleaders and walk through a “tunnel” of band students on their way into the building for their first day.  Students will need to arrive at school around 8:15am and set up to play starting at about 8:30am until the start of 1st period (I have assurances tardies will be excused if it takes a… Read More »Band First Day/Week of School Reminders
