Announcing the HHS Music Booster Scholarship Fund!

Today in class I was thrilled to get the chance to talk to our students about a brand-new program rolled out by the HHS Music Boosters that has been years in the making:  a scholarship fund to help students with a financial need cover some of the costs associated with band.  I want to publicly thank our wonderful HHS Music Booster Executive Board and all of have supported the Boosters financially for making this dream a reality.  It has always been a goal of mine to make sure that all students have the opportunity to excel in all music activities they want to work toward and not to let finances get in the way of their pursuits.  This scholarship fund takes a big step in the right direction.

At last year’s Music Booster Benefit Dinner, our generous patrons donated over $8000 to start the fund.  The Booster Executive Board also voted to contribute another $2000 to give us $10,000 to start the fund.  We are so thankful for your generous support!

The scholarship fund is a needs-based program available to all students to help subsidize any cost related to band, from travel to uniforms to honor bands and more.  This program comes at a perfect time for us as we are ramping up for next year’s trip to New York City.  The Music Boosters would love to be able to help as many of our students as possible get the once-in-a-lifetime experience of traveling with the band to The Big Apple and performing on state inside the world-famous Carnegie Hall!

If you would like to apply for financial assistance, please read over the attached directions and application.  Students should fill out the form, write a letter addressing all the points listed on the application, and submit the completed paperwork to me in HARDCOPY (not email) by Friday, February 1.  An advisory committee made up of 2 Booster Officers, 2 band parents, and a HHS teacher (not me) will review the applications and award the funds by March 15.

If  any parents whose student is not planning on applying for the scholarship would be interested in serving on the scholarship advisory committee please let me know.
