Dear HHS Band Students and Parents,
I hope you’re all rested up and recovered from Band Camp and ready to start the 2024-2025 school year tomorrow! Here are a couple of brief announcements to get the year going.
Red Carpet Welcome Tomorrow – This is a fun tradition HHS started a few years ago. On the first day of school, students entering the building would be greeted by the band/cheerleaders and walk through a “tunnel” of band students on their way into the building for their first day. Students will need to arrive at school around 8:15am and set up to play starting at about 8:30am until the start of 1st period (I have assurances tardies will be excused if it takes a couple minutes to put your instruments away!). I realize some students are at the mercy of a bus schedule, but if you drive yourself or are able to get a ride we could use your help. If you ride the bus, please join us outside the building as soon as your bus arrives. No pep band shirts or uniforms are necessary…I want to see those spiffy first day of school outfits!
Paperwork – We will go over the Band Handbook and Husky Band Day Permission Slip tomorrow in class and all students will receive paper copies that need to be filled out at home and returned to the band room (please do not email them to me). Please remember we need a cell phone number for at least one parent/guardian for our new communication system, CutTime, so print legibly! In the extremely likely event that your student misplaces the paperwork, electronic copies can be found using the links above or at www.hockinsonmusic.com. Please be sure to return these forms ASAP, as students will not be allowed to participate in the first home football game on 9/6 or Husky Band Day on 9/7 without them. While you’re at it, don’t forget to subscribe to the band Google calendar at www.hockinsonmusic.com/calendar. Just click the “+” button in the lower right corner of the calendar to add our events to your personal calendar and automatically receive any updates.
No Jazz Band II – Unfortunately, we did not have enough students interested to fill out a second Jazz Band. Students who auditioned for and were accepted into Jazz Band I have been automatically enrolled in the class. See you at 8:05am! For students who were not accepted, you are welcome to stop in and listen to the band anytime. I’ll also add that the audition materials stay up on the website all year, so feel free to keep working on them and try again next year!
Instrument Rental Agreements – If you are using a school instrument and have not returned the signed rental agreement, please bring it with you to school tomorrow. If you’ve misplaced it I can email you a new copy. Fees can be paid in the office and need to be paid in a timely manner to avoid turning into fines that can impact eligibility for athletics.
Band Lockers – If you did not pick out a band locker at band camp you can do so during class tomorrow. Bring your instrument into the band room when you arrive at school in the morning (after the Red Carpet Welcome) and just store it off to the side of the room. After tomorrow, instruments must always go in lockers.
Home Football Game Procedures – For new students/families and those who are curious about how home football games work, please click this link for the general timeline we will follow for all home football games (September 6, October 4, October 18, October 25). For parents interested in helping at home football games, click here to sign up. Band Fanwear Online Store – If you’re interested in picking up some fan wear from our online store, be sure to click here and order by September 6!
Okay, so I lied. The announcements weren’t very brief. You’ll get used to it. 🙂
