Sign Up For Basketball Pep Band

Hi Everyone

Even though the football season is still going strong, it’s that time of year to start thinking about basketball pep band season!  Sign up for games below!

The procedures and expectations for basketball pep band are the same as years past.  Games will start in December and continue through  February.  All students except VARSITY basketball and VARSITY cheer are required to sign up and attend 7 games (JV and C team basketball players and cheer can finish their game and show up a little late to play with the band during the varsity game).  Drummers, see your instructions at the end of this email.

You can attend more than 7 games, but the 7 games you commit to are the ones you will be graded on.  More games will count toward a band letter and give you better chances of being able to travel with the band for playoffs.  If you sign up for a game and then cannot attend, you must find a sub for you who plays the same instrument as you to cover your spot, plus sign up for a different game so that you can still get your 7 games in.  We have a minimum instrumentation for each game that we must have.

We’re using SignUp.com to organize our games for basketball season this year.

Here’s how it works in 3 easy steps:

2) Review the games available.  There is a set instrumentation for each game.

3) Sign up for 7 games! It’s Easy – you will NOT need to register an account or keep a password on SignUp.com.

Please check your schedules before signing up for games.  Look at Running Start schedules, work, church, drivers ed, other winter sports, club sports, etc.  Call time for all games is 6:30pm.  Games usually end around 9:00pm each night.  The calendar on the website and on Schoology will soon include all the game dates, but they’re also listed below.

There are a few games that conflict with other band events, so please be careful when signing up for a game.

• December 6, 12, and 13 conflict with performances of the musical.  If you are in Pit Orchestra or part of the cast/crew for the musical DO NOT sign up for these games.
• January 9 and 10 conflict with those students who are selected for the PLU Honor Band.

All students should sign up for their 7 games by Tuesday, November 19.  Anyone not signed up for games by then will be randomly assigned games that they must attend.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT EVERY STUDENT MUST WEAR THEIR BLACK PEP BAND SHIRT TO EVERY GAME.

Drummers:  The 7 game rule does not apply to you.  Your expectations:  I need at least one drum set player signed up for each game, preferably more.  My hope is that those at the game can trade off playing songs.  It’s helpful to have more than 1 drummer to help move equipment, block basketballs coming toward the drum set, play cowbell/tambourine, etc.  Start practicing the pep band tunes on drum set now by drumming along with the pep band recordings on the website.  You will only be allowed to play a tune at the game once you’ve played for me either during class or during our pregame warm-up.  If we cannot guarantee one drummer at each game we will need to have the drumline show up instead.  If you have questions about how drum set works with basketball pep band come see me.
